Fly Fishing

Saltwater fly-fishing is a “hot” sport around the world and Baja’s East Cape is among the premier “go-to” locations. On the beach overlooking the world-renowned Sea of Cortez, you are steps from some of the most exciting fly-fishing anywhere in the world. As the sun rises before breakfast, walk the beach where the hot springs beneath the hotel seep into the sea. The warm water attracts the baitfish, which in turn attracts predator species that will take a fly . . . and take it hard!

Local Guides

Capt. Toby Uppinghouse

Toby grew up in Northern California and has spent most of his life chasing Trout, Steelhead, Salmon, Stripers, and a variety of saltwater species on many of his treasured waters.

Toby worked for a fly rod manufacturer and fly shop during his college years and then owning a fly shop of his own at the early age of 28. He furthered his passion over the years of becoming an industry rep to many reputable Flyfishing manufacturers. Today, he continues to operate his successful guide and outfitting business while still finding time to fish for himself and always looking for that trophy fish.

While the California Delta and Northern California trout and steelhead rivers are home, he has been an active angler and guide in Mexico, Montana, Idaho, and Alaska. He started hosting trips to Baja in the 1990’s, a place that has captured his heart and still does almost thirty years later.  There are not many places he would rather be, than fishing inshore for Roosterfish or offshore for Dorado and Billfish.

Toby enjoys sharing his passion and experience of the sport with friends and clients of all ages and levels of experience.
